What it does? is there any pros to add this in for all browser?

+4  A:

It disables a feature that only appeared in the IE6 betas.

so should we use?

Do you care about users of IE6 beta (given that it was time limited and no longer works)?
David Dorward
@Jitendra, nope, I think it's no longer supported even by MS itself.

after post a question i just found on this site http://www.optimet.net/meta_tag_explanation.htm "To stop this traffic thievery, just insert the prevent Smart Tags meta tag in each page."

@Jitendra - Ignore that site. It sounds like it hasn't been updated in almost a decade. The advice is garbage. You don't need to worry about disabling a feature that has never appeared in a non-beta browser.

Not sure what to think reading these replies.

Friend of mine just purchased an new PC running New Version of IE8, so I showed him my LAME SITE, and was surprised to see links to ads on keywords that's not my doing, because I don't run any ads of my own what-so-ever.

Don't know if the will prevent MS from parsing sites or not - One day when I'm bored I will put this META on a few pages, and take a look on his PC - Since I can't duplicate it on my PC running XP version of IE8.

Sounds like his PC came with adware pre-installed.

Adware? Is there a special trick too installing? Would be nice if I could duplicate on my tester PC to find a fix. Not sure I like the idea of others profiting off of my "non-profit" sites.

I just pasted the tag in the header but it seems not taken into account (IE8)
