After not having much luck with writing to the Python mailing list, I've been on a search for the appropriate place to post my project to and receive developer support. I don't want to blacklist it by posting it to a general site and make it appear as spamming, but I also want to make sure it gets seen by as many developers with experience in that particular field.

I would put it up somewhere like SourceForge, Freshmeat, or Google Code and share the link on some communities, asking for feedback and perhaps assistance.

The hard answer you will have to expect is very few open source projects reach a critical mass of developer support.

If a project is something somebody will want to help they will find it themselves there is no short answer to 'putting it out there' just make it visible on google and make sure it does what it says on the tin, that is the project does something and is obviously going somewhere.

Nobody expects things to be perfect from day one but if the project has even the hint of vapourware about it you won't see any support at all.

Bounties are great for increasing activity and visibility.

I 2nd Thomas' answer. Put the code up somewhere like Google Code, maybe GitHub. Blog about it, maybe someone with a very similar interest will find it and want to have a go with it.
