Hi Folks, how to enable the dropdown that shows build mode 'release/debug' ? I have set the 'show advanced build configuration' option. I added the 'configuration manager' to the build toolbar but in previous versions we could do this by using the drop-down control.

TIA

Add the Solution Configurations option to the build toolbar, that should give you the dropdown.

Yep, that was it! Thanks Jacob.

The easiest way to fix this is to reset your settings to the General or C# profile.

Tools -> Import / Export Settings

The VB profile will hide this toolbar by default

Nice! Thanks Jared. I wonder why VB profile hides it while C# doesn't, weird.

i have been working with VS Studio since the early 90s.

i have been a part of .NET before it was released to the public and was actually invited to Redmond for product training and customer dialog.

i have seen all kinds of 'stupid' things happen before, but i just stumbled onto this page because i was trying to help out a newbie with their VS configuration.

somebody in Redmond, preferably a top manager should get a good smack in the back of their head. no, the product manager and the QA manager should get one.

i have been working with this newbie for the last 30 mins, trying to figure out why his debug/release drop-down isn't there and why in the world he doesn't have the refresh button on his toolbar (and why he has to press the GD refresh button (which we finally found) EVERY TIME he wants to see an ASP.NET page in design mode).

"somebody in Redmond is clueless" is my assessment, based on what I'm going through here in setup as well as landing here in hopes of getting any help.

This is just complaining, not an answer, and hasn't much to do with the question. If you're here "in hopes of getting any help" then ask your own question and provide a clear explanation of (1) what you have, (2) what you want, and (3) what you've tried.

the first answer neither one of us could even find the Solution Configurations option?

may we ask for specifics? (ie. step-by-step)

it is beyond (my) comprehension that a VB profile versus any other language supported in VS would not have this displaying by default?

is there anyone on the VS team who would care to elaborate?

sorry, but this is horrible. to the point as to why i can't explain to a newbie why my install has it and his didn't.

thanks rob k
