I have a basic report in Reporting Services 2005, with a few header text boxes and a table with a header row and some detail rows.
I have the page layout setup as an 8.5 x 11 with 0.3in margins set all the way around. The table and all the textboxes have a 7.625in width.

  • In the viewer the report looks fine.
  • In the viewer in the Print Layout Mode, the report appears to have a little extra margin space on the right. Its not equal on both sides.
  • Printed to paper from the viewer (print layout mode or not) the report prints perfectly, equal margins on both sides.
  • Printed to PDF, everything is a tad smaller, so the right margin looks a lot bigger, when in fact the fonts appear to be a little smaller as well as the heights and widths of the table and its columns/rows.

Has anyone else had these differences between the views/prints, most specifically the PDF? Is there anything I can try to make these all look uniform in spacing?

You can try passing some DeviceInfo when rendering your PDF file. It will give special instructions to the Renderer when the PDF file is created.

Take a look here.

It may be possible to increase the left margin at that point, but the reports will still be different. The pdf will have larger left and right margins as well as the slightly smaller report detail.Trust me, I'm not the one being nitpicky at this point, but we have to keep the customers happy :P
