I'm building a simple location-based service where users find out stuff near them based on their positions. I've heard a lot about simplegeo but can't seem to figure out where exactly I'll need their service. Their website doesn't seem to help too as far as product description is concerned. Can anyone enlighten me as to how the fit in?

I also just found their service seem more alike for getting position data and return some additional information to end user. Or maybe you can trying out with IP2Location, read the web visitor's IP address and get the latitude and longitude data to integrate with SimpleGeo API. That might be more interesting for your web visitor when browses on your Web site.
