Wish me luck! I'm starting out a private development company with a couple of colleagues! :)

Now I would like to have all the right contracts to present to my clients. That is, a contract authorizing beginning of the design phase at an hourly rate, then a contract to prepend to the technical spec for the fixed price development portion, SLAs, etc.

Does anyone know of any standard boilerplate contracts that cover you average, plain vanilla development project?

Remember to specify the jurisdiction in which you intend to be using the contract - in your case (given your location) that would be South Africa. While SA draws a lot of its ideas on contract law from the common law, the law and specific regulations will be different from the US or other common law countries, so you need to make sure that what you are looking at is right.

The law library may be a good starting point, although the cost of getting something like this looked over by a decent lawyer should not be high. Here (in England) I rarely charge more than UKP 300 for such a service - the more work the client puts in the less I have to do. You then get something you are reasonably confident of and that you can reuse.

I'm very interested why you thought I was in South Africa? I *used* to live in SA - now I live in Israel, but I primarily do work for the USA... Heckuva good guess, though! :)

I have no idea how I hit on that - reviewing my post. Very odd. I am recovering from illness, so maybe I was dreaming it.If you are contracting in and with people in the US then your milage with online materials may be better. Even then states do differ in the details sometimes. Good luck.
