Hi,

My name is Gautam. I come from India.

I am extremely passionate about Web Development.. I like to build web applications all the time.. Can I make this web application building a full time profession?

I have just graduated from bachelors... Is there a Master of Computer Science in Web Development? Can I choose Masters in Web Development? Is it a bad choice? Is there a course very close to it Web Development that I can choose? Should I just keep Web Development as a part time thing to do??

Could you please let me know any good universities which offer this course/ close to this course for Spring 2010?

Please advice on what I should do because my mind keeps throwing millions of questions on what I should do and my only hope is STACKOVERFLOW helps me as it always does to solve problems..

Looking forward for your reply..

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Gautam

Yes, there is a Master of Arts, Web Development. Here's a nice list of colleges that offer that degree in the United States.

That said, you don't necessarily need one to get a decent job doing web application development, since nearly every company that's hiring does web development these days. You may also find yourself overqualified for those jobs with a MA:WD. Initial salary might not be up to a Master's degree standards, for example.

If you want to have a career in web application development, keep on developing web applications. There are plenty of folks who are making very successful careers of it who don't have an undergraduate degree in computer science, never mind a Master's. Education is a great thing in and of itself, but don't look at it as a prerequisite for something that is as dynamic and ever-changing as web development.

You want to do the two things in tandem, but unless you are developing web apps today, you'll have a much harder time doing it tomorrow.

Typically in the US, a Master's of Science in Computer Science(MSCS) is not application-oriented but principle-oriented. Instead of studying web applications, you might write your thesis on user interface guidelines; or perchance, backend horizontal architecture scaling.

There are, however, Masters of Computer Science degrees, which are considered end-point degrees and which I believe are more application-driven. There are also Masters of Engineering, which are also end-point degrees.

I'm not sure about the Indian degree system - this is just USA. :)
