I have developed a WordPress plugin and I got an e-mail from a person who needs some customizations. He asks for an hourly rate, but I'm used to charge per work, not per hours.

The customization will be integrated into the plugin for everyone else to use, since its GPL code. But it's a customization I wasn't planning to develop, so I should charge for it.

My question is: how much? I know I can make the customization during my free time, in about 2 days, not exactly aware of how many hours that would be.

How much do you feel your free time is worth? If I were to pay offer you $100/hr to do something, would you drop whatever you were doing and do it for me? How about $50/hr? or $25/hr?

Just keep lowering the number in your head until you feel like you might have better things to do with your time, and that's your bottom line. Don't do the work for any less than that.

Don't go with the bottom line either.

@Shawn - yes, good point. Get as much as you reasonably can, but never settle below that bottom line.

Great way to set the price. Mail has already been answered :D
