I'm looking for some public domain images to use for buttons, progress bars, and other common GUI components. I can't find any with Google and a Creative Commons search only returns screenshots of programs. Is there anything out there for those of us who want a purdy GUI but have zero graphic design skills?
Not sure if it's exactly what you are looking for, but check Smashing Magazine, here are a couple of links, you might find something useful:

Check out the Silk icon set; it's not public domain, but it's free to use as long as you attribute it.
The Tango Icon Library is an incredibly nice public domain icon library.
According to their FAQ:
The color palette is public domain. The icon theme is also available as public domain since the 0.8.90 release. While you are not obligated to, we would appreciate if you credit the project if you chose to use the icon theme or derivative artwork in your project by linking to our website. This will help to strengthen the awareness of the style guidelines. Thank you.
Older releases were available under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license but this created an unecessary barrier for adoption at certain cases.
