Hey, there. I'm a Machinist. It's my second career. I am a hobbyist programmer after disliking it as a profession.

My current project is NC code editing and generation program. I'm targeting hobbyists and small job shops that don't need or can not afford mid-range softwares.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice about generating surfaces and toolpaths? Any papers I should read or code I could refer to?

At the moment I am focused on creating a program based in the actual NC code with options for generating code through conversational prompts similar to an EZtrak or Prototrak. However, after I have finished that part I am set on including an area for drafting 3-axis geometry and generating toolpaths around it.

Finally, I would like to include features meant for generating surfaces and five axis toolpaths but I have no idea where to begin.

Machining is a quiet industry but I figure if there is any place I might find programming information it is here. Any help is appreciated. :)

Why not u program on some CAD software, like UG, proe and so on?

They all support secondary development.
