You need experience for a job, but if you can't find a job how can you make exp ?

Hello,

I am a student, currently programming in java.

I would like to improve my chances in finding a job, but everywhere is mentioned that experience is important, to write code, good design etc.

The question is, what is this 'experience' ? A good portofolio (with own programs/work), an ex-job with java (then how do you get your first one ???), or something else ?

Maybe it is off-topic, but I'm sure that it is necessary to know how to value what we do/learn

I would like to suggest you, that you can get experience by working as a freelancer in several websites like Rentacoder, odesk.

Bid low in the start, just get done up to 10 projects to get good ratings. Keep your rate low in the start or do it for free.You can show your these projects and ratings to anyone or any company you wish to start a job.

Experience matters a lot.
