WAMP Setup - Connection resets when php tries to access mysql

I'm trying to install wordpress on a server running windows 2000 (not server edition), apache 2.2, php 5.2.9, and Mysql 5. When I get to page 2 of the setup, where it tries to connect to MySQL to add the tables, the connection is reset. This isn't an isolated error because the same issue is happening when I try to log in to phpMyAdmin. Is this a misconfiguration or am I just doing something wrong?

Edit: I've already checked with phpinfo() and mysql is enabled.
