I have a quartz job that needs to render a GSP, when I tried:

def g = new org.codehaus.groovy.grails.plugins.web.taglib.ApplicationTagLib()
def text = g.render(template: "/templates/myTemplate",
          model: [language: language,
                  product: product])

I received the following exception:

org.quartz.JobExecutionException: No thread-bound request found: Are you referring to request attributes outside of an actual web request, or processing a request outside of the originally receiving thread? If you are actually operating within a web request and still receive this message, your code is probably running outside of DispatcherServlet/DispatcherPortlet: In this case, use RequestContextListener or RequestContextFilter to expose the current request. [See nested exception: java.lang.IllegalStateException: No thread-bound request found: Are you referring to request attributes outside of an actual web request, or processing a request outside of the originally receiving thread? Using Grails 1.3.2. Any ideas on what I can do to get this working? EDIT: It's a current limitation with Grails http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GRAILS-3818

+1  A:

Workaround could be to use template-engine plugin.

Thank you! This worked well for me, I was going to add the mocking of the request context to get templating working in my app, but it's great that there's a plugin I can already use. Just watch out, I had to hack it a bit to get around this issue: GrailsTemplateEngineService line 45 controllerName should be pluginName
