php and non existing files

Question

on my site i call non existing files and it show index page not error 'not found page'. but i need to get this error, any ideas?

If you are using Apache, there is a directive called ErrorDocument. Have a look at your site's configuration (a local .htacess or something in /etc/apache2, for instance) to see if there is an ErrorDocument 404 /index.php, or similar. You can then point that to a /404.php and handle it yourself.

UPDATE: RewriteRule . /index.php [L] is the culprit. It is used to enable those pretty URLs. You can probably change the logic somewhere; I am not that familiar with WordPress. (Check out the $_SERVER array; it should contain some variables related to the 404.)
