how difficult would it be to bring back local loading of sifr?

I've got a case where we will let our users download an HTTRACK generated copy of their personal site (i.e. subdomain) and would like to do sifr generation from the file:// protocol.

How difficult would it be for the author of sifr to add it back in, or what would be required to add it back myself?
