Pronunciation of PHP str_ functions?

Hi all, I was about to use "str_replace" in a sentence yesterday, and I realized I had no idea how to say it. I'm the only developer where I work, and I'm realizing that a lot of PHP function names are abstractions in my head and I would sound ridiculous pronouncing them the way my brain does.

In particular, I say "str" just like that in my head, but seriously... "struh"?

Any thoughts? Other functions that you've had this problem with, and how to pronounce them?

Replace "str" with "string": "String replace". They're not really designed to be pronounced, so just say them in some manner that your colleagues will understand - and that won't make you sound like you're having a stroke.

I usually say "ESS TEE ARR replace", but I've heard C guys do the STERR thing.

The term "str" is just short for "string", so maybe the best thing to do is to use the full word in spoken language instead.

This should work for many other un-pronounceable abbreviations as well.
