I want to know from current Java developers on what/how they feel about the situation. I like Java and was in the process of adding it to my technology stack when I read the news. I understand that this is not a strictly programming related question however it is a pretty clear cut question. Not trying to start any flame wars. Just am trying to get an idea from the community.

No, it's not. Google implemented their own JVM for android instead of using or building on top of an existing SUN JVM. And oracle thinks that they used some patents without having a license to do so.

Heh, I was just about to link to your answer in one of the similar questions that got closed earlier. I guess people see "Oracle", "Java", "Google", and "sue" and automatically assume it's about people programming in Java...

This is really a good question. Personaly I don't think that this lawsuit will change anything for now. For the future of Java it is much more important what Oracles plans are with the language. In this is causing me some headaches since Oracle is only in this game for the money. They usually don't care much about anything else. Another point is that Oracle is not (yet) a company that is used to develop and drive a programing language.
I see it completly different. This is a chance to open our eyes and be less dogmatic about technology and what company is good or evil. At the end Microsoft (for instance) turned out to be not that evil at all compared to others in the market (like Apple with the most closed Plattorm ever...).
I don't think that the future of Java is doomed. Fact is that some of the biggest company in the market have products and/or services based on java (IBM, Google, RedHat and many more). Or if you take a look at OpenSource-market, there are so many huge projects going on that are based on Java. The future is in OpenSource. And for this to happen, at the end, now one has a real interest in dropping this technology in the next decade.

No, it's definitely not doomed, for a simple reason that, there's far too much legacy code in Java for it to be doomed.
