What is the best geek phone in your opinion for Verizon Wireless that can be developed for? I want to write a location based program, but I am unsure of what platform to target.

Can anyone provide any recommendations?

A:

It seems like the latest geek sensation is the Blackberry Storm but I'm holding out for something better.

I have not heard anything good about the storm yet..

Agreed. I went to the v-store and tried the storm. Seemed frustratingly slowwwwwww.

Verizon: Blackberry.

ATT: Blackberry or iPhone.

Sprint: Blackberry.

You are advising brands, not phones...
Geoffrey Chetwood
I'm advising platforms not individual phones. If he's asking if the storm is more geeky than the curve then this question should be closed.

I've got a T-Mobile G1 and in my opinion that IS the best geek phone. Sadly though, according to The Register Verizon may not be getting Android based handsets.

I think that is because they screwed over Google in the recent FCC auction.

i have a moto q9c- its minisd slot lets me put a wifi card in it :P sadly that means i have to pull my memory card, but its not such a big issue. honestly though i'd hold out since the next moto q iteration should be out soon and will have integrated wifi.

A:

honestly, i'm waiting for the Agora (android phone sold direct, not bundled with any specific network).

I can only tell you about the phone I have with Verizon. It's a Motorola Q and I can write programs for it using the .Net Compact Framework.

I am currently weighing out the touch pro vs. storm.

Any Blackberry device would be your best bet. I especially like the Pearl cause its low cost and small profile.

I would definately not go with a "closed" device or a phone that only supports BREW or some pay-to-program-and-distribute (iPhone is the exception, their cost of development entry is tiny) platform.

Check out the Blackberry Developers Zone offered by RIM. That'll have everything you need to get started.
