The Joomla documentation does a pretty good job at outlining everything you need to do along with a simple "Hello World" component example.

I really don't think you are going to get any any less complex. This tutorial explains all of the basics needed and gives you code examples. If you go through the entire tutorial you should be able to take the basic template the tutorial builds for you and modify it to do what you need.
