Hi guys, I have posted the above question to get more opinions on how to select a web host for a personal web site. Recently I have been thinking of creating a personal, professional site to promote myself better. I did a bit of search and spoke to a few people and most of them have suggested a quick and easy method is to use Wordpress, and in order to get a personal domain name and I would have to host it with a third party provider. My big question to you would be: Which provider should I go to? I have been to Wordpress site and it recommends Bluehost, DreamHost, Media Temple and Laughing Squid. Of these four, which 1 should I choose? Please tell me your suggestions. Cheers!

I've had good experiences with DreamHost in the past. Ultimately, it doesn't matter too much. Pick the cheapest at first, cause you can always move later. Alternatively, start with a free blog at wordpress.com to see if you stick with it before you put out the money.

Hi Anna, thanks for your answer. Yeah I have started a blog in the past but that didn't last long as it is too 'recreational'. I'm thinking of setting up a professional blog that would allow me to showcase my work. Cheers.

I am using justhost for my wordpress blogs for so long, coz its cheap and support is quick. I am not advocating justhost. Just you have to select cheap as well as popular hosting solution. Popular means less likely to have problem.

here are some usuful link for this popular question

I've been using Hostgator for a few WordPress blogs, and it's been great so far. The most basic webhosting plan starts at 4.95 per month and it's more than enough for a single WordPress instance.

I wouldn't recommend starting a free blog on WordPress.com if you want to use the website as a professional site to promote yourself. Besides, you get a lot more control on your own host.

Hey Fernando thanks for your answer. Yeah I'm thinking of starting off on a smaller scale first. Hostgator could be a good start. Cheers.

freehostia.com offers free hosting that provides PHP and MySQL, which you would need for Wordpress.

If you are going to pay for hosting its generally better to go for one that provides servers within your country. If you are UK based then I would personally recommend xilo.net

Cheers mate. I haven't thought of searching for a web host within Australia. Thanks for giving me that idea.
