How can I set the number of homescreens to 1 instead of 3?
Android 1.6, rooted. Would rather not install a launcher replacement.
Running Android 1.6 on a HTC MyTouch. I want to use this as a template for thirty other androids, so I am using Android Kitchen to make a custom ROM.
This is a better question for android.stackexchange. But what's wrong with a replacement launcher? Awt is a great launcher that let's you dynamically set how many home screens you have. Otherwise you need to rebuild the default laucher app and hardcore a new value. The source is in the git but this task will be easier said than done. Good luck!
Install a launcher replacement. I know you say you don't want to, but there it is.
ADW Launcher is an extremely capable Home replacement for Android 1.6 (Donut). I use it on my SE Xperia X10 and it is leaps and bounds better than the stock launcher, with little shortcuts you can dock to the bottom of the screen and easy homescreen editing.
This is what you're looking for, as it has the ability to define 1 homescreen with a couple of taps by going to menu -> edit on your home screen and clicking the X on each homescreen you want to remove until you're left with 1.
