I have an application provided by a 3rd Party which dumps to a log file on the local disk of my Windows 2008 Server. I noticed that if I view the file from Windows Explorer, the file doesn't show the latest file size or date modified. The only time this information is updated is if I open the file for viewing or open the properties of the file.

This is only particular to Windows 2008 Server. It doesn't happen on Windows XP. Why do I have to open the file or check its properties in order to invoke an update to the file attributes in Explorer.
