Seperate Url or sub directory off main url for mobile site?

Hello,

We are in the process of creating a mobile site and I am trying to put together some pros and cons for using a seperate url for it or a sub diretory off the main site. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have been searching this and have yet to find anything useful yet.
