Which type of applications are good for SharePoint and which are good for MVC ?

I am always wnated to learn SharePoint but always getting confused by thinking in which application type I can use sharepoint and also in weather there is a scope for sharepoint developer in india?

I am also confused for MVC and 3-Tire architecture.which are good or not ?

Please help me in this confusion.
