Obtaining Flight information

Question

Hey,

I'd like to be able to track a flight according to it's flight number, it's longitude/latitude coord., departure/arrival info. etc. I've seen examples of this here and the FlightTrack Pro app on the iPhone. I was wondering how they got this information? Who provides this service, and what is the API like?

Using the data: FlightStats.com Developer Center

A comment in this /. article states that the information comes from people with ADS-B receivers that post the information they receive to online databases such as FlightStats.
