(Python) How can I print a varible to a Tweepy "API.update_status()" command?

I am trying to add some information to a python script that posts the information to twitter. Here is the code so far:

auth = tweepy.OAuthHandler(CONSUMER_KEY, CONSUMER_SECRET)
auth.set_access_token(ACCESS_KEY, ACCESS_SECRET)
api = tweepy.API(auth) 
api.update_status()

I am trying to have time and mem variables post their outputs to the api.update_status() Any clue or alternative ways to do this?

So what's the problem? The tweepy docs say you can pass a string to update_status():

api.update_status('uptime: %s / mem: %i%%' % (time, mem))

Also, I'm guessing you meant

time = uptime()
mem = psutil.Process(2360).get_memory_percent()
