I am planning to buy portable video player (with MP4 support) to view the msdn web casts, mostly WMV files.

Has anyone tried viewing the web casts on a portable player. Which one would you recommend. (e.g. Apple iPod nano 4G)

Do keep in mind these web casts show code being written in Visual Studio, so the display needs to be clear enough to make out the code. Or is it that this level of detailing will not be visible from the portable player.

If you can recommend a phone that can do this function effectively that would be icing on the cake.

[Edit] Now I have a software called Super to take care of conversion but still the video player eludes me.

You're right--small displays are never going to be quite what you need for making out code. It's good enough for most, but not all, Channel 9 demos to be worth watching, but it's no good for reading on-screen code. You'll want to continue using your computer for that.

I watch quite a bit of all sorts on a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. however, it's support for MP4 is a little flaky at the moment. But if you're willing to transcode it to a different format it's great.

which one did you finally buy?

Not bought yet, so far it looks like there is none out there that meets the needs :( I am keeping my options open, any suggestions?

I like my zune (30 GB) for this, but I have to agree with those earlier ... reading code on ANY device this small is a non-starter. Besides, I'm not sure there's that much benefit to reading the code when it's only on your portable device - wouldn't you want to drop it into an editor and test it?

Good point regarding editor, but the idea is to watch the webcast while I am travelling and at at that time I can make do with the coding demonstration.

In that case, I'm a huge fan of the Zune for this. It's mostly audio that I'm listening to anyway, but it works great, and MS is sure to support it :)
