In the office I have two monitors. At home I have one. When I use remote desktop (Win XP) to work from home, most of the applications are smart enough to all crowd into the primary monitor so I can see and use them. However, it seems their dialog boxes are not. For example, I need to upload a file and click the "Browse" button. I do not see the resulting dialog box because it is still on the second monitor. This renders the application useless because it won't respond to anything while it is waiting for me to service the dialog box. Is there a way I can get the dialog box within view so I can deal with it? Or is there a way to cancel the box so I can continue using the application?

Thank you.

I have a similar setup and deal with this issue all the time. My solution is to type:

Alt+Space+M

The I use the keyboard arrow keys (or mouse) to move the Window back into view.

Escape?

Remote Desktop doesn't actually support running across two monitors, it renders the display according to the client size. I log in to the same session on my laptop (1280x800) then my second screen (1680x1050) and everythign changes size. When you log in from home, it should be as though the system is runnig one monitor.

It IS possible your graphics software is getting in the way somewhere and redirecting boxes, so it might be worth looking into any configs there, you should be abel to set it to default to primary monitor for dialogs.

RDP doesn't support multiple monitors, but some applications have multiple monitor support tacked on to them. For instance, Visual Studio will put some panels at negative coordinates in order to have them appear on a screen to the left of the main VS window.
That problem can occur if you simply switch your secondary monitor from the left side to the right side of your main

you could try using a different remote control software, such as VNC which is free (and probably more secure)
