I have two types of document: CHM and PDF, but I'd rather like it if they all were in PDF format.

I am looking for some good way to change it. Has anyone good ideas? I'll appreciate it.

Update: Thanks for eveyone who helped me. :)

CHM is basically a container for HTML files. (CHM = Compiled H T M L Help)

  1. So first you need a CHM decompiler (You can use HTML Help Workshop) You'll end up having a bunch of .html, .css and other files.
  2. Then use the HTML-to-PDF converter of your choice to convert the HTML files to PDF.

Huh, I always thought CHM stood for Compressed HTML, but apparently it stands for Compiled HTML.

There is an online tool that looks like it will work here: http://www.freepdfconvert.com/convert_help_file_to_pdf.asp

If you need to automate this, there is an open source python script that can do the conversion. http://code.google.com/p/chm2pdf/ And a tutorial on using the script in linux: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-convert-chm-files-into-pdf-files-in-ubuntu.html

I wish they didn't have the 10MB limit on CHM upload.

****Most software comes with help file at CHM format. If you want to print it or read it as normal pages, PDF shall be the most popular format. at this time ,if you have a useful tool to convert chm to pdf !,maybe things will go better.

I have used a wonderful converter:ABC Amber CHM Converter. for me a new hand in computer,it is a good help and very convenience. so I want to introduce to you ,hope it also useful to you.****

I am currently using this and I cannot recommend it enough. It converts to any format you could possibly want and renders superbly.

I found Chm2Pdf Pilot quite useful. It has some page layout options and mantains images and links inside the document which is quite useful. The trial version just adds a small notice in the top of the page which is perfectly fine for personal use.

For years I've used and been happy with doPDF. It installs itself as a printer. When you want to convert a .CHM document you open it and choose Print. In the printer dialog you select the doPDF printer. Nothing actually prints, it just creates a PDF version of the CHM document.

Universal Document Coverter seems to be a good choice. Haven't tried it but it looks highly customizable.
