This question on computer glasses reminded me that the next time I need to get a new pair of spectacles I've been thinking of getting photochromic lenses, which darken automatically in sunlight (UV specifically). Been getting sick of having to fiddle with clip-on sunglasses.

My only concern is that there may be some drawbacks for those of us that spend most of our toil staring at LCD screens.

Does anybody have any experience with these? Be it positive, negative or "makes no difference" it would be good to know.

Thanks.

It makes no difference. Photochromic lenses react to the ultraviolet wavelengths of sunlight. So even bright internal lights won't make them darken indoors.

That's the theory, however theory is closer to practice more often in theory than in practice, hence my request for personal experience. Thanks.

I had photochromic lenses for many years, and had no problems with screens. The lenses themselves eventually become less sensitive (staying slightly tinted all the time), but that's a general problem with being in-doors.
