Is there any solid and comprehensive book or article on business model for web startup?

I am particularly interested in how to generate revenue from a web service.

Info about ad revenue, case studies and interviews would be nice.

There's plenty of content out there, but startups by definition are doing something nobody else is doing, so very little of it will actually apply directly to you. The best approach is probably original research - find the services that are closest to what you plan to do and see how they make money. A business model no-one else is using is even better if you can work it out.

Good list, but I am looking specifically at revenue source. :-)

I had given up on my startup idea as the marketplace was already crowded with competitors. While I was mulling over other ideas I found inspiration in reading about the success stories of others, such as Getting Real by 37signals. It doesn't present a business model per se, but it certainly clarified my thinking and I ended up with such a simple model that the model itself is now a core selling point of my service, and a clear differentiator. I caution that I have yet to publish the service, that'll own sign my first customer.

I have found a blog post presenting a model for mapping startup. It includes ways of generating revenue.
