Found an article about Capabilty Im-Maturity Model (CIMM) that complements the CMM levels (1-5) with levels 0 to -3:

  • Level 0: The Negligent Level
  • Level -1: The Obstructive Level
  • Level -2: The Contemptuous Level
  • Level -3: The Undermining Level

I have never worked in projects on level -3, but certainly experienced the other levels.

Which levels have you worked in CIMM or CMM?

Minus one or zero for me.

Only managers looking for a quick headline care about CMM anymore.

I've hit them all. Or they've hit me.

I love this CIMM thing, thanks for pointing it out.

First big project I worked on the PM (aka PHB) was having an affair with the Administrative Assistant. If she didn't like you, she made your life a living hell. Once I reported an issue in the project meeting that required intervention from the PM with another department head. The PM asked the Admin. Ass. to delegate it to someone and she picked me. If the department head would have taken my call at the time I'd have already dealt with it! Next four project meetings the issue went unresolved and I continued to get dumped on for not resolving it.

I'd say that's a -3. Truth is stranger than stuff Scott Adams writes about. OK, maybe Dilbert really is non-fiction.
