I am considering using BIRT for a bursting PDF reporting application and wondered if anyone had any experience of using it in this way, especially what the scalability characteristics are of the PDF generator.

I will need to generate 100,000 summary report PDFs of no more than 2 pages each in a single batch on a weekly schedule. There are around 500 different report templates (client specific) and they all have some form of graphical logo and small charts. There may be an additional page of text comments.

Presume that the query layer in the database below the reports is capable of scaling well beyond this.

Does anyone have practical experience of scaling the BIRT server components to handle activity like this, and if yes, what were the primary constraints and what sort of hardware did you have to throw at it?

TIA
