Hi, I am using Eclipse helios. When I try to use the update it could not connect to the update site giving error,

Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/content.xml. Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/content.xml. Permission denied: connect

I am using Widnows vista and IE 8. Then I download other eclipse version like galileo, and different version like JEE/classic/Modeling etc. My target is to user for modeling mainly.

As far I have it the problem with my current computer. I tried with another pc with Windows XP and all eclipse version work with the same technique for updating.

Both pc are using the same wireless connection. I disable firewall in the pc with Vista. Still no change. Anybody knows, why it fails to connect the update website for eclipse?

I uninstall Java runtime and again when I try to install using jxpiinstall, it says the installer cannot run with the current internet settings. I don't know whats wrong with the connection. But internet browsing is working fine. Is there any issue with FTP?

The bug report at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=318014 seems have no solution yet.

Trying update java using java control panel have the same problem. Tried a solution posted at http://foundsolutionz.blogspot.com/index.html, to change DNS settings, but this did not work for me.

MORE:

I found most of the application cannot connect to Internet. e.g. I tried Dropbox, AVG, they cannot connect. Seems its an Windows Vista TCP stack issue.

I just tried to update my eclipse at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios and succesfully done it. helios update site is:

http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/

not http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/content.xml

Add correct helios site to your eclipse's site list and try again please.

The update site is http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/ but most probably it automatically checks the content.xml file in that folder.

If you try adding Window->Show View->Other->General->Internal Web Browser in Eclipse (on the Vista machine)... does it connect and surf OK?

No, it did not. The java update also did not work. Have the same problem.
