I understand, that most of the research communication in the field of AI is still done in the form of white papers, and conferences; but I refuse to believe there's nobody on the internet talking about it.
So, I'd like to know what kind of forums / mailing lists would you recommend in the topic with high signal-to-noise ratio? Especially interested in: machine learning, statistical AI, and emerging disciplines.
There is a great AI Game Developer community here. That is if you're into those sort of things.
It has an active forum, a lot of articles and they go into the gritty details of most items. The downside is that many items are for premium members only.
I did a Master in AI. I surf a lot on hte Internet to find websites with good articles and updated frenquenlty to keep me informed. I found nothing interessing. You should check for AI books where authors has more than 6 pages to explain a subject ( http://www.aiwisdom.com/ ). Papers and confenrences are realy good but less accesible.
Part of the problem is that machine learning is a hard topic. Secondly many of its industry practitioners are often bound by strict NDAs that prevent them from revealing anything but the most general things about their work. This site is new and is work checking out. Content is small right now but it is the kind of site that the community needs. The last thing the internet needs is another basic back propping single threaded neural net.
For finance specifically I have used both wilmott and nuclearphynance.
Our forum has several areas for the discussion of neural networks, and usually stays fairly active. We also host the Encog Artificial Intelligence framework(Java/DotNet/Silverlight) so there is frequent discussion on that as well.
