We are writing a Quick Look generator to create custom thumbnails for PDF files - not a preview of the document, but something else. These thumbnails display text that in Finder is currently partially covered with a "PDF" string (Type tag? Type badge? I don't know what it's called officially) and the turned corner effect, as can be seen here.

We'd like to remove both, i.e. the thumbnail should be displayed more or less undecorated, just like application icons are. How can we achieve any of this for custom file types, and more importantly, for existing file types like PDF? I read somewhere that this behavior somehow depends on UTIs (Uniform Type Identifiers), in case that helps anyone.

Thank you for your time!
