What is the best Wordpress Plugin for Email?

Hi Could anyone recommend a good wordpress plugin that simply allows me or any user with a certain roll/capability to access an email page.

Here they can select a role to send emails to, write the subject and content of the email. Also it would be great to have some hooks such as:

  1. %firstname%
  2. %lastname&

I have looked at WP-Email and Email Users but neither do what i want and if they are supposed to they dont seem to work with 2.8.4 and come with stupid extras...
