Pixie is very cool. Its a tiny color picker with a mouse tracker.

If you use Firefox, there's an extension called ColorZilla to grab a color from any webpage. Great for web development.

I have a number of web-based color picking tools and references organized in my Delicious account. Help yourself.

Adobe's Kuler is excellent. It's web-based, so it will certainly work on windows, if that's what you mean.

You can even pick a color with Paint under Windows.

  • Open the image with Paint
  • Select the pipette tool
  • Click onto the pixel you want to pick the color from
  • Open the menu "Colors" and open the dialog for adapting the palette
  • Extend the dialog and you will see the rgb color components

ColorPicker.com is great if you don't want to install anything. I also like the color picker plugin for notepad++ (go to downloads, then plugins to get the dll).

As you can see, they are a dime the dozen... I tried a number, I like DotColor and ColorPic, among many others. Zoom+ is quite usable for this, too.
