I am currently in need of help for brainstorming for some ideas.

I have seen the following applications for thin-client:

  • some of the web servers providing services such as video conversion
  • an iPhone app that simply connects to a website, and send a text string in which the server will synthesize a voice file that will be streamed back to the iPhone.
  • a local machine connecting to a server that connects to a satellite for a weather information

So my question is what are some of the other possible or practical applications for thin-client applications? If you have any possible idea, please contribute. Thank you.

This is a pretty wide-open question. Basically, anything you can think of where you want the majority of the processing on the server.

Off the top of my head: For a car dealership you could have a thin client on the phone where a salesman could lookup the stock.

For insurance a claims rep could look up the status of a claim.

Think of an industry and you should be able to come up with nearly as many ways to implement thin client applications as you can think of applications.

Indeed - i mean its assumed by his post youre talking about applications themselves as the clients but you can implement the entire workstation as a thin client (dummy terminal) like with Sun's SunRay system - the entire OS session actually runs on the server...
