uitabbar dissapears after showing modalviewcontroller

i have an app with a uitabbar and a view. the view's viewcontroller presents a modalviewcontroller, when i dismiss it the uitabbar has dissaperead. Any idea what to do?

Would it be safe to recreate the uitabbar if i can't find another solution?
