I am working on rolling a bit of my own version of linux for my real time car application. I plan to base it off of minimal ubuntu (only needsd 32 MB of memory). I am not the most skilled person with linux so not really sure how to assess components when adding them to my system. What I am looking for is a lightweight windows manager to replace gnome and it has to support the gtkmm library. Does anyone know of one?
A:
I don't think with only 32 MByte RAM you can get a X server running with Ubuntu. You better start with something like Damn Small Linux

I don't plan on using 32MB, I plan to use a lot more. I just said that it only needs that much memory before adding a gui to the build.

Correct. I plan to use a gig of memory with a via nano processor but would really like that amount dedicated to my application and future additions (media player, gps, plugin system for new hardware). Would you know of a windows manager that is lighter than xfce that works with gtkmm.
