I've been in the data warehousing business for 15+ years and, apart from the Kimball institute and a few blogs, I've yet to find a vital online community for data warehousing topics.

Am I missing out on something or will I need to build it myself?

Wherescape is a leader in the data warehouse space. It has a webpage http://www.wherescape.com/ a blog http://blog.wherescape.com/ and a forum http://www.wherescape.com/forum/ all of which are very active.

Unfortunately it is mostly product/company specific. Maybe I can use my connections to convince them to open a 'general DW' forum topic...

I'll bookmark that in case my current employer decides to shell out for etl tools (fat chance as long as they have me!).

haha. Wherescape doesn't do your traditional ETL tool though, if you have ever had the privilege of hearing their sales pitch. you may discover this from their online demos too. Apparently their forums are being redesigned with more emphasis on community though :) :)

Data warehousing is relatively fragmented, philosophies are kind of polarized and it's generally very vendor- and tool-specific.

That's probably the reason behind the dearth of resources. Kimball's forum is useful but doesn't have the broad userbase that sites like this have
