I'm a new Android developer and I just released a free, open source tipping calculator app called Tippy Tipper. I created this app to get myself familiar with Android and to hopefully provide a good example app for other new developers to look at.

Now that I've overcome the challenges of learning how to program, test and release my Android app, I've come across a new challenge: marketing!

What are some good ways to promote my app to the Android community? Can anyone with some experience talk about how they did this successfully with their own app?

You can't, not directly. Besides posting online ads about your application, the best way in app is found is by the Market. It's the same deal with the iPhone besides doing advertisement, the only way to get you app noticed is if there is a high demand for it. If people aren't searching or interested in a tipping calculator application, there is no way (yet) to get their attention. I'd find a few people that need an application like yours, get them to like and see how it goes.

Unless your Pandora... because its the only famous application I can think off. Seeing as it gets free advertisements by At&t, and t-mobile with in its commercials. Other than that, If I search for it and find it I'm golden, otherwise I'm off to find another alternative.

I'd get your Android Application Listing in the Marketplace all ready for people to start finding it and getting interested in it. That's all I can say.
