The question is intended to be subjective and a wiki (if others find it interesting).
I believe for a developer/programmer the most motivating part is to get to work on an interesting or challenging problem and then work towards its successful completion. It is difficult to deny the cycles in this job where we get to work on a routine problem which is nothing more than a mechanical task.
The idea behind this post is just to drive some motivation (for myself and others) by knowing some of the interesting tasks being addressed by someone or have been addressd in near future. Just to provide some guidelines.... - Some interesting integration that reduced release/deployment efforts. - Using a new project management tool. - Developing some application to reduce/minimise manual programming/development efforts. - Applying design pattern in a real life problem. - Refactoring. - etc.
PS: As per my question, i am only concerned about "good work" related to programming/development tasks. Also, please feel free to post an entry which fits into "good work" category in your own vocabulary (not necessarily be an advanced level task)
Thanks for your interest.
