How to configure WinMerge as diff tool with git 1.7.1?

Win7 64-bit MSysGit WinMerge installed (default location)

Although there are many similar questions here, I found no real answers catering for us Microsoft users.

Which is the correct way to configure WinMerge as your diff tool with Git 1.7.1 onwards?

Additionally, can you launch a single instance of WinMerge which opens separate windows for the files that have changed inside the main WinMerge application (as opposed to x amount of WinMerges opening)?
