Hello experts,

I'm trying to open a .BMP image with Windows Internet Explorer. IE 8.0 I have installed, and am running Windows XP.

Basically, I right click and choose Open With and click the box to "Always use this program" and then Internet Explorer opens, but then immediately closes and MS Paint opens and brings up the image.

I can click and drag the image from the desktop into an open IE window, or type in the file path, but the first time you double click the file it always opens with paint -- no matter what type of file association you have. I have no duplicate file associations and "Show pictures" has been enabled in the IR options.

Is there an image or photo plugin available for IE that would bypass this mess, or any viable workaround that could easily convert a .BMP file dump into a TIFF or similar IE 'friendly' file -- possibly a background script that could kill MSPaint immediately when opened?

Thanks!

What if you go to Folder Options, File Types and change BMP to opens with Microsoft Office Picture Manager or some other BMP program so it is the default for that file type in Windows.
