What are the best programming and development related Blogs?

What are the best-quality hidden gem software development blogs that:

  1. Don't swamp the reader with 50 posts a day, but deliver more in the order of 3-5 per week
  2. Have a high S/N ratio in the sense that they educate with long-form and in-depth articles rather than purely market the latest fad-tech
  3. Cover a broad-range of topics from core programming concepts (in-depth) to specific techniques/tools that aid the mission of crafting great software

Admittedly, this question is rather broad and blogs may only address 2 out of the 3 requirements. But I am specifically interested to discover those hidden gems that StackOverflow members know and love, but yet do not hit the mainstream radar.

This question isn't about finding the most popular programming blogs since that information is fairly easy to obtain from other sources.

So what are your favourites? Maybe we can give some support to particular hard-working bloggers in the process :-)

A:

In my opinion http://www.catonmat.net/ is a (hidden?) gem.

Tales from a Trading Desk is focused on finance, but delves into bleeding edge tech and it's application in that domain.

Great! Learning transferable insights from specific application domains. This is exactly the kind of gem this question was intending to uncover. It is likely such blogs will never become mainstream and because of this their benefits remain hidden to a wider audience.
