Further, I would like to recommend iText in Action. The chapter 5 is exactly what you need.

Have a look at the new 7-PDF Java Library (Freeware). Can convert about 84 different file and images formats to pdf on the fly. A short example shows also a html invoice to pdf conversion. You Ccan also find the javadoc for 7-PDF Java Library on this site.
