I'm currently planning to integrate a donation system into a web page for a project that I manage. Currently, there are two services I'm looking at using - PayPal and Amazon Honor System.

I want the system to be as easy-to-use - basically, if people choose to donate, I'd like them to have to do so in as few steps as possible and in a manner that is extremely clear (as in there aren't convoluted steps or form fields to fill out).

Does anyone have a recommendation on which service is better to use, and why said service is better than the other?

There's a site that performs the exact service you need: TipJoy. Though I haven't personally used it, it's definitely worth a look especially due to the micropayment nature of the transactions.

Why not give your users the most amount of flexibility and use both?

I've used both, paypal is much easier. Amazon seems to require amazon accounts which should be unnecessary. Payal also offers for a fee the ability to use their api for credit card transactions so you can hide the fact it's paypal completely. At that point you should also consider Authorize.net and their competitors.

I use an invoicing system called freshbooks which hooks up with a lot of these different payment systems. They have a good overview on their blog.

"Amazon Honor System" and "TipJoy" both RIP. I didn't like being forced to sign up for PayPal to buy QSOFT Ramdisk ( which interestingly uses the "donate" feature although you are clearly making a purchase - there are those problem customers for which this is going to be helpful, sigh ). Anyway it turned out to be worth the trouble.
Did you know that Elon Musk, co-founder of PayPal recycled his wealth into even more pioneering with SpaceX and the Tesla Roadster - only in America.

Wow. AHS has shut down since I last visited this question. Also, interesting trivia re:PayPal. That's awesome.
