I was pinging my website at 127.0.0.1 and I am getting a ping back at less than 1ms. How can the internet not have any latency. Can others please confirm. This problem cropped up today after I did my windows update on my web server. I noticed a new process in my task manager on the web server called AnsibleCom.exe, thoughts?

Maybe you have a super duper new ISP upgrade... Maybe the bits are traveling through time to reach your machine faster than normal.

Actually, I got from an insider that this is what probably AnsibleCom is all about...

When you ping an IP address, you're not pinging the website. You're pinging the machine itself. When you ping 127.0.0.1 you're just pinging the loopback interface for your computer. Since the loopback interface is virtual, there's no latency in the response.

If you're trying to test page load time, use a load testing application running on another machine. That way the traffic actually has to travel over the network and hits the actual web server.

+1 for actually giving a serious answer.

I've worked with developers who ask even better questions...didn't want to risk it.

Actually, you could have latency in the response giving that you your CPU is busy enough (/me runs!)

I think this is a side effect of the Conficker worm.

I tried logging in to that server with SSH. How the heck do you know my username and password? And how did you get a copy of all my files?!?

Barry Brown
Ha, same for me, when I'm connecting with 2130706433 ;-)

You probably won't get this in time, but you just triggered the immolation protocols for the virus I built in high school. I forgot about it, and it sounds like your website is infected.

Sorry 'bout that. Of course, you are probably already dead.

This is one more example of Microsoft ripping off someone else's idea. AnsibleCom.exe is almost a direct copy of BuggerSoft's communication protocol.

Not only did they rip it off, they also defuncted the company. That's gratitude for you.

Sadly, we may be the only two people to get the reference. What is the world coming to?
